Christianity or Socialism? And The Purpose of the Christian Body

<<Read Previous Page (2)>>

The Lord Jesus, the King of glory said the very same thing:

“…"Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.' "Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." ' "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?' "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."” Luke 12:14-21. Not rich toward God, meaning not caring for others in need.

Brothers and sisters, I am not naive of Luke 12:31 that says, “But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.” I bring this up to remind you that it is not all Christians that fall in this greedy and self centered lifestyle. If you have sought God first, God will add to you. This addition however, is also for you to reach out.

So, why has the United States Christian body been so deceived by the Republican Party? Why has the Christian body in love with the Republican Party – the children of all deceit? The Republican Party has deceived the Church into the business of judging others instead of loving and caring for them. Let me remind us, “"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Matthew 7:1-2 (NIV). We are supposed to love and show love to others and not judge.

It has become evident that the leadership in the Christian body is leading the body astray from its primary purpose. Again, what is the primary function of the Christian body? Is it not to spread the Good News and care for those in need? Is it not to be the father of the fatherless? Is it not to be the mother of the motherless? Is it not to love those who lack love? Read the character of the early Christian Body in the Book of Acts. Don’t you know that it is the pagan world that runs after the things of this world?

If you are storing up for yourself and your neighbor is hungry, have you loved your neighbor as yourself? Jesus said to a rich young man, “Go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Those who call themselves Christians and cannot even share their possessions and care for those in need are not Jesus’ followers – they are followers of themselves – their own belly – corrupt they are – liars they are – deceivers they are – children of the devil, they are – they collect offering to satisfy their own lust – the lust of every desirable thing in this world; forgetting what the scripture says about those who love this world and everything thereof – they will all perish while the word of truth remain standing. I am not saying it is not good for a Christian to desire good things. Why spend $250,000.00 to buy one car when that money could have been used to buy 10 or more cars for ten or more people in need of the least car? Why live in a mansion of 50 rooms with only two occupants and there are homeless people right across your very home? What benefit is there on the word you preach about giving when the collection you take is not extended to those who need it most? One can be justified if he/she display wealth and there is no one lacking within his/her reach. Otherwise, do not show your wealth – it stinks, it is the harvest of greed and the evidence of your greediness and selfishness.

If our politicians, opinionist, and commentators cannot differentiate when to play politics and when not to, and Christians are being deceived, we as a country is set for failure. Christians must not participate in the acts of foolishness.

I leave you with this scripture about the parable of the Good Samaritan – Luke 10:25-37 (NIV). On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" "What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?" He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'[c]; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[d]" "You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live." But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver coins[e] and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.' "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?" The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."

I say to all of you today, go and do likewise!
